Strymon Canoga Analog Fuzz PEDAL Upgraded model of a vintage silicon fuzz

Sometimes, simple really does win. Around ten years ago, Strymon founder Gregg Stock knocked up a handful of custom fuzz pedals in a single afternoon — purely as a way to clear his head. Those pedals then sat quietly on a shelf, forgotten… until fate intervened.

Fast-forward seven years, and Strymon found themselves needing a fuzz to perfectly complement their incredible UltraViolet vibe. Dust was blown off those original fuzz builds, and what started as a happy accident quickly became the spark behind Strymon’s brand-new Series A range of all-analogue pedals.

A classic fuzz, Strymon style

The Canoga is a carefully refined take on a vintage silicon Fuzz Face® circuit, based directly on one of Gregg’s original three designs. With everything dimed, it delivers proper fuzz or gritty distortion. But back off your guitar’s volume, and the personality really starts to shine. From snarling rock tones to more restrained, touch-sensitive textures, there’s a surprising range here that works across loads of styles.

It’s all about the sound

At first glance, Canoga couldn’t be simpler. One Drive control, one Level control. But don’t be fooled. The magic lies in how it interacts with your guitar and amp. Like many classic fuzz pedals, Canoga absolutely loves being pushed into an amp that’s already got a bit of grit going on. Think Hendrix and the greats of the ’60s and ’70s — where the fuzz didn’t exist in isolation, but was part of a bigger, living signal chain.

Super responsive

One of Canoga’s superpowers is how it responds to your guitar’s volume knob. Being an unbuffered fuzz, it wants to “see” your pickups directly, which means plugging straight in yields the best results. With everything full up, you get glorious, saturated fuzz. Start rolling back your guitar volume, though, and suddenly you’re in semi-clean territory — perfect for blues, rock, Americana, and even pop. Crucially, it stays clear and articulate, without getting muddy.

Inside the Strymon Series A

Everyone knows Strymon for their world-class DSP, but killer digital code only shines when it’s built on a top-notch analogue foundation. That’s where Strymon’s equally talented analogue team comes in. Series A exists to give those designers a blank canvas — no MIDI, no USB, no firmware updates and zero digital processing. Just pure analogue goodness. With Canoga joining the Fairfax as the second pedal in the range, Series A is shaping up to be something very special!
